Title
Traffic Volumes- Canal Cordon Count Data 2008-2012
Subject
Annual Traffic Counts for all modes of transport
Description
This dataset contains the results of the annual traffic counts, from 2008 to 2012 at 15 minute intervals 33 locations around the city cordon formed by the Royal and Grand Canals. The counts are conducted during the month of November each year. Counts are usually conducted at each location on two separate days and the average of the two counts is used. Separate traffic counts are also carried out in the month of May in the city centre.
Counts for the various modes of transport are captured in the following information fields: Pc (Pedal cyclist), Motorcyclist (Mc), Car/Large Van, Taxi, HGV 2&3 Axle, 4 Axle, 5Axle, 6 Axle, 7+Axle, Dublin Bus, Other Bus (e.g. private operators) and Pedestrians. Total values are given as well as Passenger car units (PCUs); a traffic analysis term that gives an equivalent grading value of different modes of transport compared to a car and is traditionally used to represent the effects of changes in traffic composition (the mix of cars, buses, and so on). Two spreadsheets represent the values taken at each location for inbound and outbound traffic and the two counts are represented on two worksheets, with the average of the two counts used for reporting purposes.
